CANAAN FAIR SPEEDWAY

It was a double header weekend for the Senior Tour Auto Racers as the first stop was on August 10^th at the Canaan Fair Speedway in Canaan NH.  STAR filled the pits with 18 sportsmen and modifieds from all over New England to give the fans a touch of good old fashion racing.  STAR started their day with warm ups and the evening would give the tour 2 heats and 2 features. 

The sportsmen were up first for their 10 lap heat.  Skip Stearns from NH in the #7X coupe took the green and a good lead on the pack, “A Man on a Mission”.  Joe Keefner from Ma in his #99 Gremlin and Robert Harless from NY in the #8 sedan side by side followed Stearns for 2^nd and 3^rd place.  Stearns still with a good led was not about to give up this win.  Harless and Keefner were still battling to see who would take down 2^nd place. When the checkered came down it was on Stearns to pick up the first win for the tour that evening.  Keefner in the #99 took down the flag for 2^nd and Harless topped the pack off with a third. 

The modified were entering the track for their 10 lap heat.  Bobby Turner from Me in the #7 Pinto took the green and slotted into first place.  Jamie Ferland from NH in the #194 Pinto and Charlie Lima from Ma in the 2X coupe drove side by side for 2^nd and 3^rd place.  Then Turner was sent to the pits with a malfunction car leaving Ferland now to pick up 1^st position.   The pack was changing lap after lap.  Danny Ferland from NH in the #21 Pinto now pulled into 2^nd position and drove side by side with his son Jamie.   Meanwhile Ed Mulligan from Ma in the #61 Pinto made his way to 3^rd spot.  When the checkered came down it was on Jamie Ferland in the #194 to take the second victory for the tour that evening.  Danny Ferland in the #21 took a close second and to top off the pack was Ed Mulligan in the #61 with a third.

At feature time it was the sportsmen to hit the asphalt first.  Robert Harless from NY in the #8 sedan and Alan Zemla from Me in the #43 coupe lead the pack for quite a few laps until Gary Moore from NH in the #7 Pinto driving on the outside line slipped into 2^nd spot.  It was Zemla and Moore to the front. Meanwhile Rick MacDowell from Ma in the #76 Camero moved his way to overcome Harless for 3^rd. Zemla and Moore still side by side and when the checkered came down it was on Moore to take the 3^rd victory for the tour.  Zemla closed in with a very close 2nd and MacDowell topped off the pack with a 3^rd.  All three were brought to trackside for an out of car interview and awarded with trophies.

The modifieds were staged and ready to hit the asphalt for their feature race.  The #61 Pinto of Ed Mulligan from RI and the #46 of James Allen from Ma lead the pack until half way mark then Charlie Lima from Ma in the 2X coupe made his way on the outside to pick up the pole.  Lima leading the pack with Mulligan still running 2^nd and now Bobby Turner from Me in the #7 Pinto pulled into 3^rd.  It was single file racing for the modifieds.  One by one bumper to bumper as the circled the Canaan asphalt.  Then making his move on the outside groove was Charlie Wilcox from Ct in the #19.  Wilcox moved into 1^st with Lima on his bumper.  When the checkered came down it was Wilcox to take the last victory for the tour that evening.  Charlie Lima in the 2X pulled in a 2^nd with Ed Mulligan in the #61 to finish off the pack with a third.  All three were brought to trackside for an out of car interview and awarded with trophies.
