STAR DOUBLE HEADER WEEKEND

Star’s second part of the double header weekend was warm and sunny as  18 Star cars made their way to new places and new faces for 2012 at the Hudson Speedway on Sunday August 12th  in Hudson, NH.  Star started their day with a picnic put on by Hudson Speedway for all Star members that attended.  A very special thank you goes to owner Bob Webber for making Star so welcome to a new track.

At 5:00 Star Sportsmen hit to the track for the first time for their warm ups, then the Modifieds were lined up ready to go after the Sportsmen and you could feel the excitement with all the drivers, new track new ventures.  The evening show would bring the tour 2 heats and 2 features.  It was kind of a surprise when two Star members showed up with two paces cars.   How perfect this would make the features as member Robert Dionne from NH would pace the Sportsmen division with his 1968 Ford Fairlane  #17 and Dwight Lowes from Ma with Art Rousseau’s super modified #616 that would pace the Modifieds.

The Sportsmen hit the track first for their heat race.  Alan Zemla from Me in the #43 coupe jumped out front with Skip Stearns from NH in the #7X coupe following on his tail, Richard Eastman from Ma in the #0 Pinto and Robert Harless from NY in the #8 sedan following the leaders.  Then Stearns made his move to take over the lead.  With a car length in front Stearns gave it all he had and was a “Man on a Mission”. When the checkered came down it was on Stearns to take the first victory for the tour.  Alan Zemla in the #43 took a second and Robert Harless in the #8 topped off the field with a third.  The Modifieds were ready and next up for their heat race.   Charlie Lima from Ma in the #10 Pinto and Jamie Ferland from NH in the #194 Pinto lead the pack side by side with Danny Ferland from NH in the #21 Pinto and Charles Grassie from Ma in the #15 Pinto right behind the leaders.  It was a four man race and anyone win!  When the checkered flew it was Charlie Lima in the #10 to take the second victory for the tour.  Jamie Ferland in the #194 took a second with Danny Ferland in the #21 finished off with a third.  VIP’s of Star dominated tonight on the heats as President and Vice President show the members how it is done!!!

Then it was time for the feature races of Star.  The Sportsmen were lead out first onto the track by Robert Dionne in his Fairlane pace car.  Then it was off to racing.  Robert Harless in the #8 sedan and Alec Gause in the #75 Vega lead the pack lap after lap.  Then Richard Tervo from Ma in the #74 coupe made his move and took the third victory for the tour that evening.  Harless with the #8 took a very close second and to top off the pack was Gause in with the #75 with a third.  The top three were brought to trackside for an out of car interview and awarded with trophies.  The Modifieds were already on the track waiting to be paced by Dwight Lowes in Art Rousseau’s super modified which is so well known by this track.  Then it was off to racing for the Modifieds.  Jamie Ferland in the #194 Pinto and Charles Grassie in the #15 Pinto took the lead lap after lap until Grassie with engine problems took his car out of the race.  Gary Moore in the #7 and Danny Ferland in the #21 moved up to first and second place and it was anyone win tonight!!!!  Moore in the #7 spun out leaving Charlie Lima in the #10 and Ed Mulligan in the #61 to take over second and third spots.  Danny Ferland in the #21 and Charlie Lima in the #10 side by side, who would win? Ferland crossed over the finish line by a bumper length to take the fourth victory for the tour with Charlie Lima to take a very close second.  Ed Mulligan in the #61 finished off the pack with a third.  The top three were brought to trackside for an out of car interview and awarded with trophies.  What I found different and great was the gates were opened up for the fans and they were allowed to come down and meet the drivers for both divisions.  The Children were having a great time sitting in the cars and having their pictures taken.

Star would like to thank Hudson for a great night of racing and all their hospitality.
