Monadnock
Speedway in Winchester, NH was the scene for the Senior Tour Auto Racers
on June 7th as cars from all over New England filled the pit area from
one end to the other for their first of two stops to Monadnock Speedway
for the 2014 season. Cars
rolled in from ME, NH, MA, RI, CT and NY.
It was hot, it was steamy but anything is better than rain.
Mother Nature finally gave all of us a break! It was nice to
see so many fans visit the Stars’ pit area taking photos and talking
to the drivers. It was also
nice to see so many different types of cars on hand.
There were flatheads, coupes, sedans, Pintos, Gremlins, Vegas,
and Mustangs something for everyone to enjoy and remember. Star started
their day with warm ups and the evening would bring the tour 2 heats and
2 features. The first to
hit the track was the Sportsmen for their heat race.
It would be Bob Harless from NY in his #8 sedan to claim the
first victory for the tour that evening.
Skip Stearns from NH in his #7x coupe took down a close second
and to top of the pack was Bob Seward from Ma in his #69b coupe to round
out the pack with a third. Now
the Modifieds were ready to do their heat race.
When the checkered came down it was on Jamie Ferland from NH in
his #194 Pinto to claim the victory for the Modified division, with his
dad Danny Ferland from NH with his #21 Pinto with a very close second
and rounding off the pack with a third was Scott Poirier from Ct with
his #73 Pinto. As you walked
through the pit area you could hear the laughter and joking from the
Star members, I knew they were up to something! You never know what they
are up to, they never surprise me with things that they do.
Star member Peter Taloumis parked his beautiful #9 yellow
flathead coupe right in the middle of the pit area and packed as many
Star members he could inside. You
could see bodies out of the windows, doors and the rest of the members
stood by the car, laughing and joking.
When I counted how many were inside it was 9 members in the
#9!!!! Then
it was race time for the feature races for the Star group.
The Sportsmen hit the track first for their feature race.
It would be Alan Zemla from Me in his #43 coupe to take down the
victory for the Sportsmen division.
Charlie Lima from Ma in his #10 Pinto took a second with Alec
Gause from NH in his #75 Pinto rounding out the pack with a third.
The top 3 were brought trackside for an out of car interview and
awarded with trophies. The
Modifieds were up next to do their feature race.
When the checkered came down it was on Scott Poirier from Ct in
his #73 Pinto to claim the victory for the Modified division.
Gregg Massini from Ma in his #19 Vega pulled off a second and
topping off the pack with a third was Ed Mulligan from RI in his #61
Pinto. The top 3 were
brought trackside for an out of car interview and awarded with trophies.
It was great to see so many states representing wins that
evening, NY, NH, MA, ME, CT, and RI. Senior
Tour Auto Racers would like to thank Monadnock Speedway and their entire
staff for all their hospitality and a “Great Night of Racing”.
Star will be returning to Mondanock on August 2nd for
their second appearance. |
