OXFORD PLAINS SPEEDWAY

On Saturday June 27^th the Senior Tour Auto Racers rolled into Oxford Plains Speedway, Oxford , Maine .  The weather was beautiful and warm.  Star started their day with afternoon practice.  Then at 6:00 Star was brought out onto the track for an out of car presentation for the fans to come down and visit the Star drivers.  Most of the cars in attendance were Pintos and officials of Oxford Plains Speedway stated "it looks like a Pinto Revolution".  They stated "we are not use of seeing this type of open wheel cars and the fans were very interested to see them up close".  It was nice to see so many fans come down and visit and chat with the Star members.  The children were anxious to sit into the Star cars.  They lined up to sit into the cars and have their pictures taken.  Then the mascot of Oxford Plains Speedway, which is a Moose, visited the cars one by one, joking with the Star members and fans. 

Then it was off to racing.  Star was brought out for their heat race were Danny Ferland in his #21 Ford Pinto and Bobby Turner in his #7 Ford Pinto battled side by side with Ferland crossing over the line only by inches to take the heat win.  In the feature who was going to win?  It was anyone race that evening.  Side by side close to the pack Ferland, Turner, Lima and Crotty, four Pintos drove close together just like the modifieds did back in the good old days.  Then on the last few laps Crotty jumped to the inner groove to overtake Ferland.  When the checkered flag dropped it was Bobby Turner from Me in his #7 Pinto to take the modified win.  Dick Crotty from NH in his #32 Pinto followed with a second with Danny Ferland from NH in his #21 Pinto to top off the third place.  In the Sportsmen Richard Tervo from Ma in his #74 coupe took down the checkered for the Sportsmen that evening. Gary Moore from NH in the #7X took a very close second.  Star would like to thank Oxford Plains Speedway for all their hospitality and a great night of racing.
