Seekonk
Speedway “The Action Track of the East” was the next stop for the
Senior Tour Auto Racers on July 12.
One by one STAR rolled into the pits of Seekonk Speedway with 23
vintage stock cars from all areas of the North East.
STAR
brought real history back to Seekonk Speedway as the Murray family
displayed for STAR on the midway their original Volkswagen that ran at
Seekonk back in the days, she was an eye catcher.
Richie Murray original driver was on hand to greet the fans and
later son Rob Murray took a few laps around the oval once more.
It was nice
to see so many fans, past drivers , Seekonk drivers and crewmembers
visit the STAR pit area to share stories and talk to the STAR drivers
and view up close STAR’s beautiful
restored racecars. STAR
started their day with warm ups and the evening would bring the tour 2
heats and 2 features. Like I said
“The Action Track of The East” and there was no exceptions, STAR had
their own action. The first
to hit the asphalt was the Modified division for their heat race.
Rich Mosher from CT in is #17 coupe battled Darryl Dutch from RI
in his #6 coupe for the win. With
only 2 laps to go, Dutch spun out giving the field a new start.
When the checked came down it was on Mosher to take the first
victory for the tour that evening.
Brian Robie from NH in his #7 Pinto took down second place
and to top of the pack with a third was James Allen from Ma in his #46
Monza. The
Sportsmen were already hitting the track for their heat race.
On the green John Mulcahy from Ma in his #57 Mustang took to the
lead with Doug Sologow from Ct in his #70 coupe on his tail.
Lines shifted positions changed and when the checkered came down
it was on Doug Sologow with his first win with the Senior Tour Auto
Racers. Alan Zemla from Me
in his #43 coupe took second and Joe Keefner from Ma in his #99 Gremlin
finished off third. At feature
time it was the Modifieds to hit the track first.
Positions changed from lap to lap but when the checkered came
down it was on hometown boy Charlie Lima from Ma in his 2X coupe to take
down the victory for the Modifieds.
Brian Robie from NH in his #7 Pinto took another second place
finish with his new car and to finish off the pack with a third was
Darryl Dutch from RI in his #6 coupe.
Top three went to trackside for an out of car interview and
awarded with trophies. The
Sportsmen were lined up and ready to go. Lap after lap positions changed
but when the flag came down it was on Rick MacDowell from Ma in his #76
Camero to take down the Sportsmen Feature.
John Mulcahy from Ma in his #57 Mustang picked up a second and
Tammy Barboza from Ma in her #10 Pinto took a very close third. Top
three went to trackside for an out of car interview and awarded with
trophies. STAR would
like to thank Seekonk Speedway and their entire staff for all their
hospitality and a great night of racing.
Also thank them for the great photo album that they posted on
facebook of the STAR cars. Log
onto Senior Tour Auto Racers facebook page and view over 400 photos of
STAR at Seekonk. |
