STAR DOUBLE HEADER STAR SPEEDWAY

Once more it was another great night for racing as Mother Nature took a vacation with no rain in site.  Senior Tour was making their first appearance at the Star Speedway, in Epping, NH on May 26th.  On hand to represent Senior Tour was 23 cars all curious to give this new track a go.  Senior Tour started their day with afternoon practice.  The evening would bring the tour two heat races and two feature races.

All geared up and ready to go the Star members were ready to give Star Speedway Vintage Racing at its best.  The first to hit the track was the Sportsmen for their heat race.  Richard Tervo from Ma in his #74 coupe was out in full blast that evening.  Leading the pack Richard was going to be hard to catch.  But making their way from the middle of the pack was Gary Moore from NH in the #7 Pinto and Alan Zemla from Me in the #43 coupe.  Who was going to take down the first race at Star Speedway? When the checkered came down, it was on Tervo in the #74 fighting off Moore in the #7 who finishes with a very close second.  Zemla in the #43 was right there with a close third place.  On stage was the Modifieds ready to give their best at this new track and I have to say it was a great race as Paul LaPlante from RI in the #02 coupe and Danny Ferland from NH in the #21 Pinto went side by side for quite a few laps.  Then Danny Ferland dropped to the inner groove to open up the field where Jamie Ferland from NH in the #194 Pinto shot out to pass LaPlante on the last couple of laps and took down the second win for the tour.  Danny Ferland topped off the pack with a third.

In the evening Senior Tour was brought out onto the track for an autograph session.  Vintage cars covered the complete front stretch from one end to the other.  Star Speedway opened up the gates to let the fans come down to meet the drivers and view the cars up close.  It was great to see the STAR members signing autographs on tee shirts, photos, and flags and talking to the fans.  The children were getting a big kick on setting in the cars but I think the drivers got just as much a kick out of it as the children.

Then it was off to racing as the Sportsmen hit the track first for their feature.  The flag came down and it was off to racing for the Sportsmen division.  Richard Eastman from Ma in the #0 Pinto and John Dieptro from Ma in the #7 coupe drove side by side with Russell Lowe from Ma in the #22 coupe and Alan Zemla from Me in the #43 coupe close to the leaders.  One wrong move and they were ready to make their move.  When the checkered came down, it was on Dieptro in the #7 to take the Sportsmen feature that evening.  Eastman in the #0 took a very close second and Russell Lowe in the #22 took over third by a bumper from Zemla.    The top three were brought to Victory Lane. The modifieds we next on the tap for their feature race.  The green flag came down and it was off to racing for the modifieds.  Paul LaPlante in the #02 coupe jumped out to take the lead with the #21 of Danny Ferland close behind him.  The pack shifted from car to car.  Danny Ferland from NH in his #21 Pinto and Paul LaPlante from RI in his #02 coupe switched positions lap after lap until Vito Colaneri in his #55 Vega Wagon slipped to the outer grove and took over the lead.  Colaneri continued running  first place and behind him was LaPlane and Ferland until the last lap when Sumner Scott from NH in his dad #5 coupe did a sling shot and took over third place as the checked flag came down. The top three were brought to Victory Lane.

Senior Tour would like to thank Star Speedway for a great night of racing.
