SENIOR TOUR
AUTO RACERS ANNUAL
TOY DRIVE
On
December 23, 2010 the Senior Tour Auto Racers once more made their appearance
to the
Pace
Head
Start
School
in the city of
New Bedford
for their annual toy drive. Children
awaiting for Santa to come and give them a Christmas that they would not have
had. As Star’s Santa made his
entry to each classroom followed by his elves with bags and bags of toys,
smiles and tears of joy from so many children greeted him.
I have to tell you some cute stories that came from these children.
One child said he wanted nothing for Christmas just if Santa could see
to give his baby sister a doll. Another
child was excited about getting a pair of gloves with his toys, so small to
some of us but not to these children.
One little girl asked Santa to sleep over her house that night that she
had been waiting for him all year, but Santa had to explain to her he was very
busy and could not sleep over. Can
you image if Santa had not showed up! Another
disappoint in the lives for such small children.
But because of the members of Star we were able to once more make the
lives of these small children a dream come true.
Santa did not forget them this year!!
All year long Toy Drive Chairperson Tammy Barboza has been collecting
toys and donations to buys toys to service about 150 children.
Tammy takes a list of names of the children and what they would like
for Christmas. She tries her
hardest to appease most of them but most of the time is very easy.
Some will ask for a doll, a truck, or a game, but most of them just say
anything Santa can bring.
Star would like to thank the following for their support as being elves and
helping with the toy drive. Matthew
Barboza, Michael Barboza, Charlie Lima, Mary Lima, Bill McAvoy, Kevin McCarthy,
and Dwight Lowes. A special thank
you goes out to Dennis Lowes for once more playing Star’s Santa.
I do not want to guess who got more a kick out of this, the children or
Dennis. And hats off to our
Chairperson Tammy Barboza for all her hard work and dedication to the
Star Toy Drive
with out her this would not have happen. A
very special Thank You to the Star members would had a big heart and the
thought of giving and not receiving, you are all special.
It could not have happen with out your support.
It was also nice to see the New Bedford Standard Times the city’s
newspaper come and do an article on Star and its Annual Toy Drive.
Star was feature in the City’s paper and it was nice to see something
good instead of the usual depressing news.
