STAR'S 15TH ANNUAL TOY DRIVE DAY

STAR held its’ annual Toy Drive on December 20th at the Pace Head Start School in New Bedford, Ma.  For the last 15 years STAR has been donating toys to high risk, low income children to make Christmas a reality instead of a wish.  Without the support of the STAR members these children would go with no Christmas presents.  As you walked through the hall ways of Pace Head Start School you could hear the children shouting “here comes Santa Claus”.  If you could see the smiles and the wide eyes then you would know just how much the STAR members made a difference for these children.

Let me take you for a walk of what went on that day.  STAR’s Santa who was member Dennis Lowes handed out over 200 bags of toys.  Tammy Barboza Toy Drive Chairperson would pass to Santa one bag at a time as Santa would call out their name to come and collect their toys.  Classroom after classroom Santa and his elves made their way to hand out the toys.  As Santa entered the classroom the children would run to give him a big hug and patiently wait for their bag of toys with their name on it. Helping out Santa as elves were Dwight Lowes,  Bill McAvoy, James Allen, Charlie Lima, Kevin McCarthy and Mary Lima.  STAR would like to thank these members for taking the time out of their busy holiday schedule to help out with the Toy Drive.

STAR would like to thank Toy Drive Chairperson Tammy Barboza for working all year, purchasing toys and sorting and bagging all the toys collected and then heading up a complete day.   STAR’s toy drive has already begun and STAR is now collecting toys and donations for the 2014 Toy Drive Day. The children range from the age of 3 to 5.  Some toys that the children are asking for are baby dolls, remote control cars, fire engines, Candy Land Games, Dora, Mickey Mouse, and Spiderman.

A special THANK YOU to the members of STAR who gave toys and donations for the 2013 season.
