STAR
BROUGHT “HISTORY ALIVE” TWIN STATE SPEEDWAY |
|
The
fans said it better than I could. “They
vintage modifieds have a sound of their own; it was like walking back
into time.” Senior Tour opened up their season on May 31st
at Twin State Speedway, Claremont, NH.
Star rolled into the pits one by one from all over New England to
give the fans a taste of vintage racing at its best.
Star
hit the asphalt for their warms ups from 1:00 till 3:00.
It was a great chance to try out their cars and get them race
ready. Then
Mother Nature had a change of heart.
The clouds now turned into rain.
The rain lasted for about 1 hour and then when the rain stopped
all the divisions got onto the track to dry it off.
I would like to thank all the Star drivers for helping dry off
the track so we could all get back to racing! The
evening brought the tour 2 heats and 2 features.
The first heat to hit the track was the Sportsmen, where Joe
Keefner from Ma in his #99 Gremlin took down the first checkered for the
tour. The modifieds were
lined up and ready to hit the track for their heat race.
Danny Ferland from NH in his #21 Pinto took down the second
checkered for the tour. When
all the heat races were done, all cars were brought out on the asphalt
for an on track fan party. The
fans were allowed to come down and meet the drivers of all divisions.
It was nice to see the Star members signing autographs and
talking to the fans about the tour.
I have to say the best picture I got that night was one of a Star
driver holding a baby, now I have a Politician in my group, “kiss the
baby and you got my vote.” It
showed the fans just how family orientated the Star group are. Then
it was race time for the feature races.
And what would a race be without the famous “George Powers”.
George has been doing on track starts with Star for years at
multiple tracks, by standing in the middle of the track with his flags
with the cars roaring on each side of him.
The fans cheered him on. Then
it was off to racing for the Sportsmen division.
When the checkered came down it was Robert Harless from NY in his
#8 sedan to take down the win for the sportsmen division.
Alec Gause from NH in his #75 Vega took second with Skip Stearns
from NH with his #7X coupe topping off the pack with a third.
The top three were brought trackside for an out of car
introduction and awarded with trophies. The
modifieds were ready to hit the track for their 15 lap feature.
The checkered came down it was on James Ferland from NH in his
#194 Pinto to take the win for the modified division.
James Allen from Ma in his #46 Monte Carlo took down second place
and Danny Ferland from NH in his #21 Pinto topping of the field with a
third. The top three were brought trackside for an out of car
introduction and awarded with trophies. Star would like to thank Twin State Speedway and their entire staff for all their hospitality and a “GREAT NIGHT OF RACING”
