STAR CLOSES SEASON AT TWIN STATE SPEEDWAY

Senior Tour Auto Racers closed their running season on October 5th at the Twin State Speedway in Claremont, NH.  It was a special night at Twin State for it was the “Night of Honoring Past Champions”. STAR was on hand to do a dedication race in honor of all these Champions.  STAR would like to thank Twin State Speedway for giving us the honor of doing this dedication race.

As we entered the Speedway it was so great to see so many cars and motorcycles in the pit area.  The pit area was filled with all divisions and I have to say this “Twin State Speedway was back in Full Strength”.

Star started their day with warm ups and at 3:00 the races began with heats.  Star was put out first for their heat races.  In the Modified Division it was hometown boy Danny Ferland in his #21 Pinto to take the heat win for the modifieds.   Rick MacDowell from Ma in his #76 Camero showed the sportsmen how it was done by taking the heat win for the sportsmen division.

Then before the feature races were to take place, Twin State Speedway did their presentation of “Past Champions” at the start finish line.  First the Rolling Thunder Motorcycle Organization was escorted onto the track, lining up their beautiful motorcycles one by one on the front stretch.  Then STAR was escorted out onto the track also to the front stretch.  What a great picture to see all the motorcycles and vintage cars lined up ready to do their dedication to the past champions.  Then owner Dennis Flurey opened up the gates and invited all the fans to join in and come on the track to enjoy the motorcycles and vintage cars and to be part of the presentation.  The fans crowded around the Star cars getting a chance to sit in them and take pictures.  Stories of the good old days could be heard from one end of the front stretch to the other.

One by one Twin State brought up their former champions and honored them.  When the presentation was over the Rolling Thunder Motorcycles paced the track for a few laps.  What a great site that was, two by two they did their victory dedication lap. Then after exiting the track STAR hit to the asphalt to do their dedication 20 lap feature for the champions.  To give the race the proper way to start was doing just like they use to do back in the day, “An On Track Start”. Then old time friend to STAR George Powers did what he does best.  It was an on track start with George standing in the middle of the track and flagging the Star cars on.   I have to say they did an outstanding job and the fans cheered them on.  The modifieds ran a tight bumper to bumper race dicing it up from lap to lap.  But when the checkered came down it was on hometown boy Jamie Ferland in the #194 Pinto to pick up the last win for the 2013 season for the modifieds.   Danny Ferland was right on his side and topped the pack off with a very close 2nd place.  There was a photo finish for third between Charlie Lima in the 2X coupe and James Allen in the #46 Monza.  But Lima took third spot only by a bumper length from Allen.  When the checkered came down on the sportsmen it was Joe Keefner in his #99 Gremlin to rule the pack and take the last victory for the sportsmen for the 2013 season.  Rick MacDowell in the #76 Camero drove a very close second to Keefner and to top off the pack with a third was new member Alan Davis in his #5 Aces coupe.  The top three from each division were brought track side for an out of car interview and presented with trophies.  I was so proud of the Star drivers as they gave the past champions a great race and the fans gave them a standing ovation.  “Way to go Guys”!!!!!!

A very special thank you to Twin State Speedway for letting us honor the Champions of Twin State Speedway!

Thank you to all the Star members who came to close the 2013 racing season in a fashionable way!!!!
