WATERFORD SPEEDBOWL |
|
On Saturday
September 8th and 9th Star made their appearance
at Waterford Speedbowl in Waterford, CT.
Saturday was a static display for Star as they parked on the
midway for the fans. The
weather was questionable as rain and high winds were predicted.
It was raining all around the Bowl but luckily missed the Bowl
letting the races get in that evening. On Sunday
Waterford Speedbowl held a special show “Motor Jam” Ct’s largest
custom car, truck and bike show hosted by radio station Jammin 107.7.
There was activity on the midway with bands, in the parking lots
were beautiful classic cars, trucks, and bikes and on the track there
was racing and burn outs, something for everyone.
It was
great to see the crowd flood in from the car show as they heard the
stock cars on the track. The
stands were filled with fans to see the vintage cars and other shows on
the track. Stars’ day was
practice first then on to a heat race where John Mulcany from Ma in his
#57 Mustang and Charlie Lima from Ma in the #10 Pinto diced it up to see
who would take down the heat race.
Ed Mulligan from RI in the #61 and Rick MacDowell from Ma
in the #76 Pinto were right behind the leaders.
When the checkered came down it was Mulcany to take the heat win
with Lima taking a second and Mulligan topping off the pack with a
third. At feature race time
Star ran a “race within a race”
Sportsmen and Modifieds running together.
Steve Zukowski from Ct in the #53 and Thomas Beauregard from Ct
in the #51 Pinto lead lap after lap until Charlie Lima in the #10 made
his pass on the outside to take over first place with Ed Mulligan in the
#61 following Lima to slot into second place.
The Sportsmen were dicing it up as Bob Seward from Ma in the #69B
coupe and Rick MacDowell from Ma in the #76 Camero were changing
positions from first to second lap after lap.
Ron DaRos from Ct in the #213 sedan closed in on Seward and
MacDowell. When the
checkered flags came down it was on Charlie Lima in the #10 to take the
victory for the Modifieds. Ed
Mulligan in the #61 crossed over to take a second and to top off the
modifieds with a third was Steve Zukowski in the #53.
In the Sportsman it was Bob Seward in the #69B to that the
victory for the Sportsman. Rick
MacDowell in the #76 took a very close second and Ron DaRos finished off
the pack with a third. Both
winners were brought to victory lane for pictures and awarded with
trophies. Star would
like to thank Waterford Speedbowl for a great day of racing and fun. |
