WATERFORD MOTOR JAM |

On Sunday
September 8th Waterford Speedbowl held a special show
“Motor Jam” Ct’s largest custom car, truck and bike show hosted by
radio station Jammin 107.7. There
was activity on the midway with bands, in the parking lots were
beautiful classic cars, trucks, and bikes and on the track there was
racing, burn outs and much more, something for everyone.
If you missed this show you missed a great time!!
STAR would like to thank all the members and cars that showed up
for this non-point show to support the club.
It was probably one of the best shows this year with the joking
and laughing, a very relax show and a great show! It was great to
see the crowd flood in from the car show as they heard the stock cars on
the track. The stands were
filled with fans to see the vintage cars and other shows on the track.
Stars’ day started with a 10 lap heat.
Modifieds and Sportsmen drove together and I have to say it was
quite a surprise as they drove side by side lap after lap.
Bob Seward Sportsmen driver from Ma in his #69 coupe and Charles
Grassie Jr. Modified driver in his #15 Pinto led the pack lap after lap.
Seward had no problem keeping up with Grassie.
This is something you do not see every day.
In second place was Rick MacDowell Sportsmen driver from Ma in
his #76 Camero and Charlie Wilcox Modified driver from Ct in his #19
Pinto also running side by side. It
was so neat to see the Sportsmen drivers on the inside and the Modified
drivers on the outside running side by side lap after lap with respect
for each other. When the
checkered came down it was on Charles Grassie Jr. in the #15 Pinto to
take the win for the Modifieds. Charlie
Wilcox in the #19 Pinto took a close second with Gregg Massini in the
#19 Vega topping off the modifieds with a third.
Bob Seward in the #69 coupe took the win for the Sportsmen group
with Rick MacDowell in the #76 Camero taking a close second and John
Mulcahy in the #57 finished off the pack with a 3rd.
At feature time
STAR rolled on the track Modifieds and Sportsmen running together “A
Race Within a Race” just like back in the old days.
I think this is the first time I laughed during a feature race; I
could not get over how great these guys ran together.
You couldn’t tell who was a Modified or Sportsmen!!
Charlie Lima Modified from Ma in the 2X coupe and Bob Seward
Sportsmen from Ma in the #69 led the pack side by side for half the
race. Then Rick MacDowell
made his way on the outside to take over the led from the pack.
Gregg Massini followed MacDowell to slot into second.
Then it was on MacDowell a Sportsmen and Massini a Modified drove
side by side with Charlie Lima in the 2X a modified pulling into third
with Ed Mulligan in the #61 a modified driver pulling up to 4th
place. Hey MacDowell right
in the middle of all modifieds this was cool!
When the checkered came down it was on Gregg Massini in the #19
Vega and Rick MacDowell in the #76 Camero side by side a photo finish,
one Modified and one Sportsmen. Charlie Lima in the 2X pulled a close
second with Ed Mulligan in the #61 topping off the modifieds with a 3rd.
In the sportsmen’s division it was John Mulcahy in the #57 to
take a second and topping the pack off with a 3rd was Doug
Sogolow in the #70 coupe. STAR would like
to thank Waterford Speedbowl and Jammin 107.7 for a day we will never
forget!!!!!!!! |
