THE STARS AND CARS OF YESTERYEAR

WHITE MOUNTAINS MOTORSPORTS PARK

“THUNDER IN THE MOUNTAINS” and that is just what it was as the Senior Tour Auto Racers rolled into White Mountains Motorsports Park on August 26th filling the pits with cars from New York to Canada.  The roar of these grand old modifieds echoed throughout the mountains with a sound of their own!

STAR started their day with warm ups from 1:00 till 3:00.  This was a great opportunity to get any bugs out of your car or just seat time for the new members.  It was great to see non- car owners get into the cars and give it a shot!  Now they have the understanding of how much fun this can be and I think some of them got hooked!!

STAR would like to thank Jocelyn & Line Laliberte from Canada for their very nice jester of giving all a beautiful baseball hat at the drivers meeting. Talking about the drivers meeting, it was not unusual to see these drivers roasting other drivers with their jokes, laughter and jesters.

It was great to see a lot of sales on our club products.  We sold out on a lot of sizes but they are already on order.

Then it was race time. The first to go out was the Sportsmen division for their heat race.  It would be Bob Harless from NY in his #8 sedan to take down the first checkered for the evening. Right behind Harless was Mike Sweet also from NY in his #101 sedan to pull off a second. Rick MacDowell from Ma in his #76 Camero topped the field off with a third.

The Modifieds were lined up and ready for their heat race.  Scott Poirier from Ct in his #73 Pinto took down the checkered on the last lap with his move to the outside.  Bobby Turner from Me in his #7 Omni took a very close second and rounding out the pack with a third was Jocelyn Laliberte from Canada in his #61 QC Pinto.

Then it was back to the pits for the STAR members to get their cars ready for their features.  It was nice to see the old members giving the new members a helping hand getting their cars ready and just some good Old Fashion Pit Talk!

Then it was time for the feature races to take place.  In the Sportsmen division it was Jim Torok from Ct in his #04 Pinto to take the checkered and win for the Sportsmen division.  Alan Zemla from Me in his #43 couple pulled off a close second and finishing off the pack with a third was Art Merchant from Ma in his #64 coupe.  The top third was exited out and brought around to the pit entrance to later join the top three modifieds.

Then the Modfieds hit the track for their feature.  It would be James Allen from Ma in his #44 Mustang to take the checkered and the feature win for the Modified division.  Bobby Turner from Me in his #7 Omni would pull off a second and Jocelyn Laliberte from Canada  in his #61QC would round out the pack with a third.

Then the top three Sportsmen joined the top three Modifieds at Victory Lane. White Mountains brought all three from each division trackside for and out of car interview and trophies.  What a great night and so much fun at Victory Lane!

Thank you to White Mountains Motorsports Park their entire staff and the FANS for a great night of racing!
