STAR DOES ALS CHALLENGE - WHITE MOUNTAINS MOTOR SPORT PARK

“Thunder in the Mountains” White Mountains Motor Sports Park was the next stop for the Senior Tour Auto Racers on August 23rd.  It was brisk and you could feel in the air that fall was just around the corner.  The season is winding down and before we know it will be winter.

Star started their day with practice from 1:00 till 3:00.  The evening would bring the tour heats and features.

At race time it was the Sportsmen to hit the track first for their heat race.  Skip Stearns from NH in his #7X coupe took the lead and the first checkered for the tour that night.  Alan Zelma from Me in his #43 coupe and Joe Gause from NH in his #0 Nova battled for second place, with Zelma picking up second and topping off the pack with a third was Joe Gause.  The Modifieds were ready to hit the asphalt for their heat race.  When the green came down it was James Ferland from NH in his #194 Pinto to shoot out and take the lead and the second checkered for the tour that evening.  Scott Poirier from Ct in his #73 Pinto closed in for a close second and rounding off the pack with a third was Brian Robie from NH in his #7 Pinto.

At feature time, Brian Robie from NH in his #7 Pinto took down the checkered for the modified division, with James Allen from Ma in his #46 Monza pulling off a second and Ed Mulligan from RI in his #61 Pinto finishing off the modified division with a third.  In the Sportsmen it was Rocky Cusanelli from NH in his #51 coupe taking down the win for the Sportsmen division.  Skip Stearns from NH in the #7X coupe took a second and Alan Zemla from Me in the #43 finished off the sportsmen with a third.

But then the STAR Tour was not done for the evening.  President Charlie Lima, Vice President Skip Stearns and Race Director Mary Lima had been challenged by member Charles Wilcox to do the ALS ice bucket challenge all together.  So the challengers, challenged the members to do the ice bucket challenge that night and they accepted.  So after the feature race members Charlie Lima, Skip Stearns, Mary Lima, James Allen, Brian Robie, Ed Mulligan, Scott Poirier, John Mulcahy, Alan Zemla and Rocky Cusanelli took the challenge on the front stretch of White Mountains Motor Sports Park in front of the fans.  You could hear the fans cheering them on.  It was a lot of fun for a great cause.

Star would like to thank White Mountains Motor Sports Park and their entire staff for all their hospitality and allowing us to do our challenge at their speedway!
