It was “Back to School Night” and “Rides for Kids Night” at the Lee USA Speedway on August 29th. .
Senior Tour Auto Racers was part of the program as they rolled into Lee
USA Speedway in Lee, NH for their second appearance for the 2016
season. What a night it was as vintage racers filled the pit area of
Lee USA Speedway. One by one they hauled into the pit area. There was
Coupes, Sedans, Pintos, Vegas, Mustangs, big blocks, small blocks, just
about every type of vintage racecar was present and ready to go. It was
so great to see so many different states representing STAR that night,
Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and New
York!!!!!
To
start the day Star had two sets of warm-ups. First the Sportsmen
division took their time on the track to get ready for the evening
events and then the modified division took their turns also getting the
cars ready for the night racing.
It
was time for Lee USA Speedway to have the “Rides for Kids” time. I
want to thank all the STAR cars that went out on the track to join in
this event and there were a lot of you!! The children love to ride in
the vintage cars and you could see them fighting which one to get into.
Thanks go out to the members that participated in the “Rides for Kids.”
Then
it was off to racing as the STAR Sportsmen took to the track first for
their heat race. When the checkered waved it was on Robert Harless from
New York in the #8 sedan to take the first victory for the tour that
evening.
Now
it was time for modifieds to hit the track for their heat race. When
the checkered came down it was Bobby Turner from Me in the #7 Omni to
take the second victory for the tour that evening.
Then
it was time for the feature races of STAR. The Sportsmen hit to the
asphalt first for their 15-lap feature. It was Richard Eastman from Ma
in the #0 Pinto to take the lead on the pack and the third checkered
for the tour that evening. Alan Zemla from Me in the #43 coupe slotted
into second with Michael Keddy from NH in the #50 coupe finishing off
the pack with a third. Richard Eastman was brought to trackside to take
his victory lap and an out of car interview and award with the first
place trophy.
Now
the modifieds were hitting the track for their 15-lap feature. When
the green came down it was off to racing for the modifieds . The pack
was tight with half way to go, Dwight Pickard from Me in his #16me Vega
shot out and took the lead and the win for the Modified division. Scott
Poirier from CT in the #73 Pinto and Jody Tripp from Ma in the #04 Pinto
diced it up for second place. When the checkered came down it was on
Tripp to pick up the second place with Poirier rounding out the pack
with a third. Dwight Pickard was brought trackside to take his victory
lap and an out of car interview and awarded with the first place trophy.
Star
would like to thank Lee USA Speedway and their entire staff for a great
2016 season and also thank them for including Star in the FUN FILLED
