THE STARS AND CARS OF YESTERYEAR

The weather was perfect for racing and it was nothing but “Green Flags” for the weekend as Senior Tour made its next stop to STAR Speedway, Epping, NH on 6/18.

The day began with afternoon warm ups. The evening would bring the tour 2 heats and 2 features with an on track “Meet and Greet” with the Senior Tour Auto Racers and the Star Speedway fans.

Star Sportsmen rolled onto the track first for their heat race.  When the green came down it was off to racing for the Star Sportsmen.  It was anyone’s win as the positions changed from lap to lap.  When the checkered came down it was on John Mulcahy from Ma in his #57 Mustang to take the first checkered flags for the weekend.

The Modifieds were up next for their heat race.  It was Scott Poirier from Ct in his #73 Pinto piloting to the front to take down the second checkered for the tour.

Then it was Star’s Speedway‘s “Meet and Greet Time”.  One by one Senior Tour cars came out filling up the front stretch to meet the fans of Star Speedway.  The track opened up the gates and let the fans come down to meet the Senior Tour drivers.  It was great to see autographs being signed and children sitting in the cars to have their pictures taken.  You could hear stories all up and down the front stretch from the fans and the drivers. It was a great time!

Then it was feature time as the Senior Tour Sportsmen hit the track first.  When the checkered came down it was on Art Merchant from Ma in his #64 coupe to take the victory for the Sportsmen division.  Michael Keddy from NH in his #50 coupe took a very close second and rounding out the pack with a close third was Skip Stearns from NH in the #7X coupe.  The couples ruled that night with first and second place going to STAR rookies!  The top three were brought trackside for an out of car interview and awarded with trophies.

The Modifieds were lined up and ready to hit the track for their feature.  When the last checkered for the evening came down it was Bobby Turner from Me in his #7 Omni to take the victory for the Modified division.  Scott Poirier from Ct in his #73 Pinto and Charlie Lima from Ma in his #2X coupe rode side by side till the last lap when Poirier took the checked by inches, giving Poirer to finish off second and Lima taking a third.  The top three were brought trackside for an out of car interview and awarded with trophies.

Senior Tours would like to thank STAR Speedway and their entire staff for all their hospitality and a great night of racing!
