NEW LONDON WATERFORD SPEEDBOWL

It was “Nostalgia Night” at The New London Waterford Speedbowl in Waterford, Ct on July 29th, which was the next stop for the Senior Tour Auto Racers. STAR filled the pit area of the Bowl with cars from all over the New England states. STAR started their day with warm ups for each division and then staged their vintage cars on the midway of the Speedbowl for the fans to get an up close feel of the cars and drivers before their heat and features races.  It was so great to see so many fans and past drivers of the Speedbowl stop by and say “hello” and talk to the owners about their cars. This has always been a huge hit and I was so glad to see that the new management of the Speedbowl continued this show!

One by one the STAR cars exited off the midway to get ready for their heat races.  Now the fans had enjoyed them up close they get to see them in action!

First to hit the track was the Sportsmen division where Art Merchant from Ma in his #64 coupe show the way to take down the first checkered for the tour. Curt Snow from Ma in his #110 coupe and Robert Harless from NY in his 8 sedan battled for second.  Snow taking the checked for second with Harless finishing off the pack with a third.  Merchant was awarded with a heat trophy for his win!

Up next was the modifieds for their heat race.  It was Gregg Massini from Ma in his Vega wagon to take down the second flag for the tour.  Second went to Wade Gagner from Ma in his #12 Pinto and to top off the pack with a third was Charlie Lima from Ma in his #2X coupe.  Massini was awarded with a heat trophy for his win!

Then it was back to the pit area where the jokes and the laughter began!  The STAR family knows how to have fun both on and off the track.  These members know how to help each other to make sure all is ready for the feature.  You could see them in the pits busy helping out each other and that is what makes me proud, the STAR family puts their club first!

Then it was feature time. First up was the Sportsmen division where Bob Seward from Ma in his beautiful maroon coupe took down the checkered for the evening for the Sportsmen division.  Rick MacDowell from Ma in his #76 Camero and Alan Zemla from Me in his #43 coupe battled for second.  When the flag came down it was MacDowell taking second and Zemla with a very close third.  Mmmm the Berkshire Bandit ruled tonight!  The top three finishers were brought trackside for an out of car interview and awarded with trophies.

The Modifieds were lined up and ready to hit the asphalt.  It would be Wade Gagner from Ma in his #12 Vega Sherri Cup car to take the last checkered for the tour. Rich Mosher from Ct in his #17 coupe took down a second and topping off the pack with a third was Gregg Massini from Ma in his #19 Vega.  The top three finishers were brought trackside for an out of car interview and awarded with trophies.

STAR would like to thank The New London Waterford Speedbowl and their entire staff for all their hospitality and a night to remember!
