WISCASSET SPEEDWAY

It was Wiscasset Speedway in Wiscasset Maine for the Senior Tour Auto Racers on 7/15. Under management and ownership of Vanessa and Richard Jordan, STAR would like to say “Thank You” for including us in their 2017 schedule.  You could hear the laughter coming from the STAR pit area as the drivers of Wiscasset and fans came down to greet the STAR drivers. Yes it is just as Wiscasset logo says “BIG–FAST-FUN”!

STAR started their day with two rounds of warm-ups for both the Sportsmen and the Modified divisions.  The evening would bring the Tour, heats and features.

The first to go out was the Sportsmen division for their 10 lap heat.  Curt Snow from Ma in his #110 coupe shot out and got a good led on the pack.  There was no grace here Snow took down the heat race with a good lead.  The #8 sedan of Robert Harless from NY and the #64 coupe of Art Merchant from Ma battled for second place.  Harless crossing the line first leaving Merchant to pick up a third place

The modifieds were lined up and ready to hit the asphalt for their 10 lap heat. What a heat it was, as the #2X of Charlie Lima from Ma and the #7 by Bobby Turner from Me, drove side by side lap after lap. When the checkered came down it was a photo finish between Lima and Turner.  The Speedway scorers called Lima to victory lane leaving Turner to pull a very close second.  To finish the pack off with a third was Ryan Chadwick from Me in the #86 sedan.

Then it was back to the pit area where the members gather together for a picnic.  The laughter jokes and teasing began!  This is the best part of racing in a vintage club when the members get to have quality time together as a club.  OUOTE:  “It not always about racing to have FUN”!

At feature time in the Sportsmen division it was Alan Zemla from Me in the #43 coupe to take the last checkered for the Sportsmen division.  Skip Stearns from NH in the #7Xcoupe pulled off a second while Art Merchant from Ma finishes off the Sportsmen with a third.  Three coupes in Victory Lane, Ma Me and NH!

In the modified division it would be Arthur Hannaford from Me in the 71ME Malibu to take the final checkered flag for the tour.  Bobby Turner from Me in the #7 Omni pulled a very close second and Ryan Chadwick from Me in the #86 sedan finished off the pack with a third.  Maine Drivers ruled in Victory Lane!

Talking about Victory Lane let me tell you what a great Victory Lane Wiscasset Speedway has installed over the winter months.  The work that has been done to this great track is unbelievable!  To get to victory lane you have to exit on turn three were the speedway installed a road on the outside of the track around turn three and four down to the fans in the front stretch.  There they installed a cement pad for the top three winners to get out and have an interview and the fans are invited to join them!  I was so proud to see the STAR drivers inter act with the fans and give them a lot of laughs!

STAR would like to thank all the members who made the trip to support the club and a special “Thank You” to Wiscasset Speedway and their entire staff for making our visit one to remember!
